· An annual state convention showcasing presentations by internationally and nationally known artists and lecturers, materials from well-known pedagogues, master classes in all instruments and voice, and a showcase for outstanding students at all levels.
· Regular meetings throughout the academic year featuring a wide range of topics with the aim of assisting in the teacher’s professional growth and providing networking opportunities.
· A referral system to help members increase their clientele.
Prestige It establishes you as a qualified teacher in your community.
Fellowship It enables you to have pleasant contact with your fellow teachers.
State Programs It encourages your students to meritorious work and regular attendance through state programs like “Certificate of Merit."
Local Recitals and Festivals It brings to your pupils an opportunity to appear in public recitals with students from other studios.
Ethics It sponsors an excellent code of ethics.
California Plan It gives an immediate means of self-improvement by the use of the “California Plan,” which provides for further study toward degrees of collegiate rank.
Cooperation Membership facilitates that cooperation with our colleagues and with other musical organizations which will raise the standards of music teaching and will widen its channels of influence.

Types of Membership
Active Teacher Member A person who is engaged in the profession of teaching music, who has had at least two years’ experience in teaching and has a degree in music from an accredited institution or the equivalent of a degree in music.
Provisional Member A temporary classification for those who expect to qualify for active membership within three years.
Business Affiliate Member A non-teaching person, such as a firm or institution, interested in the purposes of the Association.
Student Member Student currently pursuing a college degrees as music major.
Contributory Member A MTAC teacher who is active in one Branch and who has affiliated with one other Branch by paying its local dues.
