| Cooperation | Membership facilitates that cooperation with our colleagues and with other musical organizations which will raise the standards of music teaching and will widen its channels of influence. |
| Active Teacher Member | A person who is engaged in the profession of teaching music, who has had at least two years’ experience in teaching and has a degree in music from an accredited institution or the equivalent of a degree in music. |

| Provisional Member | A temporary classification for those who expect to qualify for active membership within three years. |
| Business Affiliate Member | A non-teaching person, such as a firm or institution, interested in the purposes of the Association. |
| Student Member | Student currently pursuing a college degrees as music major. |
| Contributory Member | A MTAC teacher who is active in one Branch and who has affiliated with one other Branch by paying its local dues. |
